Personal Insight

I have always been drawn to learning from history, and the history of audiology is particularly fascinating. Its roots trace back to World War II, when the military began treating Soldiers returning home with noise-induced hearing loss. Commissioning into the U.S. Army allowed me to honor those who laid the foundation for audiology while actively advocating for better hearing health choices.

In the clinic, we often see patients after the damage is already done. But imagine if we could prevent hearing loss before it begins. My life’s motivation is to educate individuals on the importance of preventing noise-induced hearing loss. Growing up on an island with limited access to healthcare, I understand the value of accessibility deeply, which is why I believe so strongly in the WAHTS mission to expand access to hearing healthcare.

If I, as a hearing professional, do not advocate for your ears—who will?

Ask her how serving Veterans and Soldiers shaped her passion for hearing conservation — and why access to hearing care is more than just compliance; it’s a mission.
